Sherri Fleming

Sherri E. Fleming retired as the County Executive for Travis County Health and Human Services after 22 years of service to its residents.

Ms. Fleming was the longest-serving Travis County Executive at the time of her retirement. Ms. Fleming has more than 33 years of public service, having worked for 11 years in Harrison County, Texas.

Ms. Fleming began her career in public service in the Juvenile Probation Department in Harrison County, Texas, where she worked as a juvenile probation officer, Detention Superintendent and Juvenile Services Director. Ms. Fleming joined Travis County in March 2000 as a Juvenile Court Division Director and transitioned to serving as the Health and Human Services Division Director for the Family Support Services Division in September 2001.

Ms. Fleming accepted the position as County Executive for Health and Human Services in October 2004 and provided vision, strategic guidance, and leadership to the Administrative Services, Research and Planning, Family Support Services, Community Services, Office of Children’s Services, and AgriLife divisions of the department.

Ms. Fleming has guided, championed, and advocated with the employees of Health and Human Services in their pursuit of access and outstanding service delivery via various helping and healing arts programs and social services investments for the residents of Travis County. Ms. Fleming’s service to Travis County also included providing executive leadership to other county departments throughout her tenure, including the Veterans Service Office and the Facilities Management, Human Resource Management, and Communication and Media Services departments.

Ms. Fleming holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. She is a licensed chemical dependency counselor and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.

Ms. Fleming currently serves as secretary of the Travis County Credit Union Board of Directors. She is a member of Shoreline Church and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Ms. Fleming is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana.
